Thor: Ragnarok Will Not Be the Last We See of Two New Characters

In Norse mythology, Ragnarök is “the final destruction of the world in the conflict between the Aesir and the powers of Hel led by Loki.” Also known as the “Twilight of the Gods,” it sees the destruction of Asgard and the death of Thor, Odin, Sif and the rest of the Asgardians. While we already know that Marvel’s Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and and his erstwhile brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) won’t be offed in director Taika Waititi‘s Thor: RagnarokiMDb lists them as part of the cast of Avengers: Infinity War — there are at least two other characters that will definitely survive the hell that Hela (Cate Blanchett) brings to the Nine Realms. According to Marvel guru Kevin Feige, two supporting characters will return in some capacity down the road.

We have plans for Korg and Miek. When and where we’ll have to wait and see, but we, like the audience now that they’ve seen them, can’t get enough.

Anyone who knows anything about the (retconned) comic book mythology of Thor recognizes that Korg and his rocky brethren, the “Stone Men,” made their first appearance in the Marvel Universe in the very same issue that introduced the god of Thunder: Journey into Mystery #83 (1962). Korg was not seen again until decades later, when he appeared in the gladiatorial arena on the war-world of Sakaar in the now-famous “Planet Hulk” storyline, the same storyline that introduced Miek in The Incredible Hulk vol. 2 #92 (2006). The gladiator combat in Thor: Ragnarok clearly owes much to this storyline, but how Korg and Miek will return and whether they will be friends or foes remains a mystery. Maybe they’re be roomies with Darryl.

Thor: Ragnarok was written by Eric Pearson, Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost. Mark RuffaloCate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa ThomsponIdris Elba, Karl Urban, Tadanobu Asano, Benedict CumberbatchSam Neill and Anthony Hopkins also star.

The movie opens November 3rd.
