Star Wars: Disney Teases Andor, Announces Hayden Chistensen Returning in Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Lando Series & More

The biggest Star Wars news during Disney’s recent investor day presentation was the new feature film Rogue Squadron with Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins at the helm, but the studio also revealed a slew of new series coming to the Disney+ streaming service. Given that The Mandalorian series is the best thing to happen to Star Wars since, well, in a long time, it’s no surprise that it’s spawning a spin-off series or two: Rangers of the New Republic and Star Wars: Ahsoka, featuring Rosario Dawson as the wandering Togruta and former Jedi who made a big splash in S2E5, “The Jedi.”

Disney is also planning on returning to characters and situations from Rogue One, arguably their best feature film since acquiring Lucasfilm. The new series Andor will serve as a prequel to Rogue One and focus on Rebel spy and assassin Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). The series is already being filmed, aimed at a 2022 debut.

Disney also revealed that Hayden Christensen will return as Darth Vader in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor. The series, described by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy as “the rematch of the century,” takes place 10 years after Kenobi defeated Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith.

But, wait! There’s more…

Lucasfilm is also developing Lando with Justin Simien (Bad Hair) showrunning. It’s unclear whether the series will take place in Lando Calrissian’s present and be portrayed by Billy Dee Williams, or in his past, portrayed by Donald Glover, or perhaps include both incarnations, but we can’t wait to see more of the scoundrel. And, Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) will serve as showrunner of a female-centric series called The Acolyte that will explore the dark side of the Force during the last days of the High Republic era, hundreds of years before the birth of Anakin Skywalker.
