Wonder Woman Director Patty Jenkins to Helm Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Movie
A deluge of news about upcoming Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios projects came flooding out of Disney’s recent investor day presentation, much to the delight of home-bound fans of both properties who have been thirsty for details. Marvel has been tight-lipped about its projects since first delaying the release of Black Widow during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, and Star Wars fans have been subsisting on (exceedingly excellent) episodes of The Mandalorian and the tease of a Taika Waititi-directed film project in the future.
Amidst all of the Marvel news, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced that award-winning director Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) would be leaving Themyscira and the Amazons for the Outer Rim and Rebel pilots as the director of Rogue Squadron, a stand-alone feature in the vein of Rogue One. Jenkins will be the first female principal director of a Star Wars film.
In response to the official announcement, Jenkins posted an excellent short video showing how and why she is the perfect person to direct a movie about a fighter squadron in the Star Wars universe:
