Ryan Reynolds’ Video Game Action-Comedy Free Guy Pushed Back to December

Take the unshakable optimism of Emmet from The Lego Movie, surround him with the absurd, hyper-violence of Deadpool (with even a cameo by the “Merc’ with the Mouth” himself!) and set it in a virtual landscape of HUDs, power ups and extra health a la Ready Player One and you’ve got Free Guy, the newest “superhero” vehicle for title star Ryan Reynolds. Unfortunately, even the seemingly limitless powers of “Guy” are no match for the coronavirus pandemic, so Disney has added Free Guy to its long list of movie release delays, pushing the opening back from July 3rd to December 11th.

A bank teller (Reynolds) who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story… one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way… before it is too late.

Free Guy was directed by Shawn Levy (Stranger Things). The script was written by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn, from a story by Lieberman.  Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Taika Waititi also star.
