New Still Images from Solo: A Star Wars Story Depict a Legendary Scene

While Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) was ostensibly the hero of Star Wars, we have always been more interested in the smuggler, scoundrel and “scruffy-looking nerf herder” known as Han Solo (Harrison Ford). After all, taking on an evil empire while gifted with super powers that allow you to move objects with your mind and see the future is one thing, but doing the same with nothing more than bravado, grit  and a souped-up transport ship is another. Not to mention the fact that Solo gets the girl, while Luke swaps spit with his sister. Eww.

Our love of Ford’s portrayal of Solo was immediately an obstacle to our acceptance of a prequel starring a different actor, but after seeing the latest trailer — and, if we’re being honest, the friggin’ excellent Beastie Boys-inspired fan-made remix of the first trailer — we are excited to see the exploits of young Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich), Chewbacca (Joona Suotamo) and Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) play out on the big screen.

We recently saw a rather interesting Denny’s commercial featuring kids portraying Han and Lando engaged in a game of chance, and we immediately thought of the famed sabaac game in which Han supposedly won the Millenium Falcon from Lando. Obviously, that was a little wink and nod to a moment in Solo: The Han Solo Story, which we now have confirmation of thanks to more than three dozen new still images of the movie, several of which seem to depict that fateful game of chance that led to Han, Chewie and the Falcon being instrumental in the fall of the Empire. Not only that, but we get many more shots of the newest droid, L3-37, voiced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Ron Howard directed the movie from a script by Lawrence and Jon KasdanThandie Newton, Woody Harrelson, Paul Bettany and  also star.

Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on May 25th.
