Exciting New Images and BTS Video from the Set of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

We still have a million and one questions about the fate of our heroes — and the entire galaxy far, far away — as we approach the release of the ninth and final film in the Skywalker SagaStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but a new photo spread in Vanity Fair from legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz and behind the scenes video from the set of the movie have given us some clues about where the final battle against the forces of the Dark Side might be taking place, as well as a look at a few of the newcomers to the fray, most notably Kerri Russell as Boba Fett’s rival for coolest helmet, Zorri Bliss, and the final reveal of the Knights of Ren. Of course, it wouldn’t be a J.J. Abrams movie if at least one new giant question mark wasn’t added to the mix, in this case a shot of Mark Hamill looking like a very-much-alive Luke Skywalker.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was directed by J.J. Abrams, who kicked off the new trilogy as the director of The Force Awakens. This time around, he co-wrote the script for the movie with Chris Terrio. John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall GleesonLupita Nyong’o, Kelly Marie Tran, Billie Lourd and Joonas Suotamo reprise their roles from The Last Jedi, joining series veterans Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels and Carrie Fisher. Joining the cast are Keri Russell, Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens on December 20th.
