Step Aside, Avengers, Here Come the Eternals in Their First Teaser Trailer
In the beginning…
Marvel Studios is banking on Eternals to fill the Galactus-size hole in the MCU now that the Avengers are no more — at least, not the Avengers we know and love, with Captain America (Chris Evans) living in the past, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on walkabout in space, and Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) meeting their makers — and they’ve stacked the deck in their favor by loading the cast with superstar actors like Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, and Kit Harrington. They’ve even dropped quite a few easter eggs into the teaser trailer including what appear to be ancient shields adorned with stars and circular stripes that are eerily reminiscent of Cap’s iconic shield, allusions to Camelot, a monolith inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey, and even the Holy Grail from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Marvel Studios’ Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, the Deviants
The movie is the first major studio film for Independent Spirit Award-winning director Chloé Zhao (The Rider). The script was written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. The super ensemble cast includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh and Angelina Jolie as Thena, with Kit Harrington as the human hero the Black Knight.
The Eternals opens in theaters on November 5th.
