Zoë Kravitz on Fan Service and Playing Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman
Now that Birds of Prey is in theaters, Warner Bros. has finally decided to begin passively promoting what is already becoming its most highly-anticipated movie in a decade, the relaunch of the Batman franchise with Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight. Writer-director Matt Reeves released a short teaser video giving us our first look at Pattinson in the new batsuit and the cast has been allowed to speak about the film.
In a recent interview supporting her new Hulu series, High Fidelity, Zoë Kravitz talked about her process for getting into the character of Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, revealing that a certain amount of isolation from fan expectations was necessary to make the character her own.
If you start focusing too much on what people are going to think you’re doing yourself a disservice, it’s almost like you’re putting your energy in the wrong place. Of course, I want to honor the fans and hope they like what I do with the role, but in order to do what I think I need to do with Catwoman I have to go internal and forget about the rest of the world.
The Batman is slated for release on June 25, 2021.
