Robert Pattinson’s Bat-Suit Screen Test Landed Him the Lead in The Batman
The casting of Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Matt Reeves‘ upcoming franchise relaunch The Batman was “quicker than normal,” according to a Warner Bros. “insider,” with only the former Twilight star Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult in serious contention for the role. Apparently, it all came down to costume screen tests on the Burbank lot of the studio with both actors donning previous Batman costumes to see if they could “embody” the character of Batman through body language and emoting with their eyes. Apparently, Warner Bros. was so eager to get the movie into production that they had “a pre-negotiated deal” already written up and ready to go for whichever actor passed the screen test.
In The Batman, Bruce Wayne is younger than we have seen him previously, “around 30,” according to THR’s insider, and not yet “a seasoned crimefighter,” but a hero still “trying to find his footing.” Batman’s detective work will pit him against Catwoman and the Penguin, according to some reports, and it’s expected that more casting announcements will be forthcoming now that the lead is in place.
The Batman is slated for release on June 25, 2021.
