The Matrix 4 Resumes Filming in Germany; More Original Cast Members Returning

We’re all looking for glimmers of hope in times of covid.  Perhaps, in this time of great concern and dysfunction, we should turn to the entertainment industry for signs of our recovering humanity.  News has recently leaked that The Matrix 4 (working title) has resumed filming, with TMZ offering a glimpse of Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Neal Patrick Harris all on set in Berlin, Germany.

There’s still plenty of time between now and release date, which allows for some reviewing of the original trilogy to make sure you catch all the upcoming eggs in the newest chapter (not a reboot, but a continuation of The Matrix story).  Of particular note, early reports indicate that Jada Pinkett Smith will also return as her character Niobe, as well as my personal favorite side-character of the trilogy, The Merovingian, played perfectly and with panache by Lambert Wilson.

All release date and any other information regarding casting — will Laurence Fishburne return as Morpheus?! — is currently set to ‘TBD’ on IMDB, but this little twinkle, this little glint of a highly anticipated back-on-schedule fourth installment of The Matrix storyline is enough to fully restore my faith in an eventual return to a “normal” existence.  If Hollywood is trending in the right direction, can the rest of us be far behind?  As the great Oscar Wilde explained, “Life imitates art far more than art imitates life.”

Matrix is written by relative newcomers Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell.  Director Lana Wachowski is also credited as a writer.  Lana formerly Larry) wrote and directed the original Matrix trilogy with her sister Lilly Wachowski (formerly Andy).  Hemon, Mitchell and Wachowski all collaborated previously on the Netflix TV series Sense8 (2015).

The Matrix 4 has a scheduled release date of 2022, but it is subject to change.

Thanks Berc! It will be pretty cool to see where they take it. Hopefully it’s not a room with a bearded guy and a bunch of tv’s.
      Thanks for the read!

Okay what? Matrix is coming back? How have I never heard of this before now and why the hell are they making another one? The first one is gospel and that freeway scene in 2 is fantastic but after that…downhill. Have the twins made another decent movie in the last 20 years?
