New Look for Ronan and BTS Featurette and Extended Clip from Captain Marvel

It seems Marvel Studios is feeling the pressure to make moviegoers forget about DC/Warner’s new superhero franchise, the worldwide phenomenon that is Aquaman, and concentrate on their own new potential superhero franchise, Captain Marvel, because promotional material is dropping with increased frequency. Marvel has a built-in core audience that is probably bigger and more diverse than any fan base since Harry Potter, but the pressure is still on to hype audiences on the adventures of Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) considering Captain Marvel is expected to supplant or replace Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) or one of the other heroes that is expected to die or retire following Avengers: Endgame.

A new still image of Lee Pace as Ronan has been released that shows the Kree Accuser looking quite a bit different than he did when he was in the service of Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Guardians of the Galaxy. In Captain Marvel, Ronan wears the same teal green-colored uniform worn by the other members of Starforce. His face is also unadorned with the black blood that streaked his face in Guardians.

Producer Jonathan Schwartz told ComicBook.com that Ronan’s attire is emblematic of his loyalty to the Kree Empire.

It’s an earlier version of Ronan, who has not become the radical zealot that we saw in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ So he has his own station in Kree society, on Hala, and has his own role to play in the Kree military that intersects with Starforce in an interesting way.

In a new featurette, directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississipi Grind) discuss Carol’s “journey of discovery” and the importance of Brie Larson learning to fight to play the pilot-turned-superhero.

A new extended clip from the film shows us Captain Marvel in action on Earth, still sporting her Starforce teal-green costume, as she pursues an enemy atop a speeding train.

Captain Marvel was written by Meg LeFauveNicole PerlmanGeneva Robertson-DworetLiz Flahive & Carly Mensch.  Samuel L. Jackson returns as Nick Fury, with Djimon Hounsou reprising his Guardians of the Galaxy role as Korath. Ben MendelsohnLashana LynchGemma ChanAlgenis Perez SotoRune TemteMcKenna Grace, and Jude Law also star.

Captain Marvel opens in theaters on March 8th.
