Director Matt Reeves Reveals First Look at the New Batmobile from The Batman

After the cape, cowl and batsuit, what is more quintessentially “Batman” than the batmobile? More than just a mode of transportation, the batmobile is a traveling arsenal and fortress rolled into one, it’s a powerful statement of identity meant to scare the bad guys and tell the cops to get out of his way, not to mention a stylish way to differentiate each new cinematic iteration of the Dark Knight. In The Batman, writer-director Matt Reeves is taking the DC Cinematic Universe back in time, years or even decades before Ben Affleck‘s homicidal version of the Caped Creator, to when Bruce Wayne was first starting out in his career as a crimefighter. Reeves already revealed to us Robert Pattinson as a svelte young Batman in a simpler-yet-still-tactical version of the batsuit and cowl and now he has revealed to us his version of the batmobile.

Befitting an inexperienced crimefighter, the new, old batmobile is more beefed-up muscle car than the tank it would become in The Dark Knight Trilogy and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Nonetheless, it’s aggressive body sculpting and exposed engine give it a menacing look that we can’t wait to see in action.
