DC Movie Nooz: The Suicide Squad Filming in Fall, Harley’s New Duds & Black Adam’s Jungle Cruise

The Suicide Squad

This is one of the more superhero-free summer movie seasons in recent memory, with just Spider-Man: Far from Home swinging into theaters and giving us an excuse to escape the heat and take in a matinee, but more movies are on the way. Fox is on hiatus, Marvel is keeping its Phase 4 plans hush-hush, but Warner Bros./DC has the decidedly-different Joker debuting October 4th and Birds of Prey (And the Fabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) on February 7, 2020, and another go-round with Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) going into production at the end of summer. According to GeeksWorldWide, James Gunn will begin shooting The Suicide Squad in September in Atlanta, Georgia.

In addition to Robbie, Viola Davis will return as Amanda Waller and Jai Courtney and Joel Kinnaman have revealed that they are reprising the roles of Captain Boomerang and Rick Flagg, respectively. Will Smith has bowed out as Deadshot, and new cast member Idris Elba was once thought to be taking over the role, but he may be playing Bronze Tiger or another character altogether. David Dastmalchian has also joined the cast as Polka Dot Man, and Daniela Melchior is rumored to be playing Ratcatcher, while rumors of John Cena playing Peacemaker persist.

The Suicide Squad is slated to be released in theaters on August 6, 2021.

Birds of Prey (And the Fabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn)

A new image of Margot Robbie as the maniacal anti-hero has surfaced online, giving us a sneak peek at what her new costume might look like in her post-Joker phase of life.

Black Adam

The long-gestating SHAZAM! spin-off movie starring Dwayne Johnson as Teth-Adam, the fallen ancient Egyptian wielder of the lightning and arch-nemesis of Shazam, may have finally found a director. According to Variety, director Jaume Collet-Serra , who recently directed Johnson in Jungle Cruise, is in negotiations to help the New Line project. Johnson production partner and Black Adam co-producer Hiram Garcia confirmed the news:
