DC FanDome: Dark, Exhilarating Teaser Trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman Shows the Dark Knight in “Year Two”
Amidst massive layoffs at DC Comics and DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. went ahead with its scheduled “digital Comic-Con” event, DC FanDome, and released a host of exciting new teasers, trailers and interviews about its upcoming slate of films, including the highly-anticipated revival of the solo Batman franchise with writer-director Matt Reeves‘ The Batman.
The teaser trailer is dark and moody, set to an even more-morose version of Nirvana’s “Something in the Way,” and gives us a look at Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) early in his career as the Dark Knight. Set during his second year as a crime-fighter, Reeves’ Batman uses homemade tactical gear, has a stripped-down “Bat Cave” devoid of trophies, and dispenses “vengeance” with a ferocity we have never before seen on the big screen.
The teaser also offers our first good look at the ensemble cast of heroes, anti-heroes and villains that surround Batman, including James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright), the Riddler (Paul Dano), Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz) and a host of others. There are also numerous easter eggs for die-hard comic book fans to hunt for and debate, with references to the Court of Owls, the Joker-inspired Clown Gang and more.
The Batman also stars John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham DA Gil Colson, Barry Keoghan as Officer Stanley Merkel, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrel as Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin.
The Batman is slated to open in theaters on October 1, 2021, in select 2D, 3D and IMAX theaters.
