Aqua-News: Arthur and Mera Face Multiple Threats in New Aquaman Clips and Pitbull Does Toto with “Ocean to Ocean” Track

After over a year without a superhero movie in theaters — a year in which, no doubt, Warner Bros. looked long and hard at the state of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) of movies and tried to figure out how to recover from the damage done by Zack Snyder‘s dark vision — Aquaman will be joining the ranks of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and, yes, Green Lantern, as the latest member of the Justice League to headline his own movie.

From all accounts, Aquaman will put quite a bit of distance between the DCEU today and last year’s Justice League disaster. Shunning the dark and gritty “realism” of Snyder’s movies for an over-the-top take on superheroics that includes giant sea monsters, magical quindents (a trident with two extra prongs) and a sometimes-shirtless, sometimes-armored Jason Momoa who appears to be in his element (pun intended) as Arthur Curry, the future King of Atlantis.

All of that energy, enthusiasm and over-the-top spectacle is evident in the latest clips from the movie. The first features Aquaman squaring off against his biggest land-based threat, Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and another showing Arthur and Mera making a hasty retreat from the swarming monsters of the trench.

And, a new track from the soundtrack of the movie has been released titled “Ocean to Ocean” performed by Pitbull featuring Rhea in a Big Willie Style take on Toto’s “Africa.”

Aquaman was directed by James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring, Furious 7). The screenplay was written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad) from a story by Wan and Geoff Johns. The cast includes Amber Heard as Mera, Temuera Morrison as Aquaman’s father, Thomas Curry; Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, science advisor to the throne of Atlantis; Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus of the undersea kingdom of Xebel; Julian Lewis Jones as the king of Atlantis; and Academy Award-winner Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mother, Queen Atlanna.

Aquaman opens in theaters on December 21st.
