Get Sneak Peeks at Disney’s Live-Action Remakes of Dumbo and Aladdin

Disney is all set to flip the script on a few live-action remakes of childhood classics. Dumbo and Aladdin are set to hit the big screen this spring and both are intriguing, to say the least.

Dumbo

Directed by Tim Burton. ‘Nuff said. His fingerprints are all over this, from the dark and mysterious surroundings to the absolutely fantastical characters. Burton is a master at the ambient teleportation of the senses, and Dumbo appears at first glance to be another trip down grotesquely fanciful lane.   I am a little sad we don’t get the usual Burton/Bonham-Carter combination that has a proven track record of success, but Colin Farrel, Michael Keaton and Alan Arkin should complement the script nicely.  

Dumbo also stars Eva Green as the trapeze artist who provides the flying elephant all the inspiration he needs, and Danny DeVito as circus owner Max Medici. It opens in theaters on March 29th.  

Aladdin

Will Smith straight broke the internet after this sneak peek hit televisions and devices across the country.  Audiences took to twitter to express that they are concerned the new Genie (Smith) appears “too blue” and “too scary”… Nuts to that, I say! Smith has the personality and ability to modernize this classic to the delight of fans both new and old, and Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Sherlock Holmes) has the skills as a writer and director (he did both for Aladdin) to take this one home.  

Aladdin also stars Naomi Scott as Jasmine and Mena Massoud as Aladdin. It opens in theaters on May 24th.
