Vin Diesel Reveals Guardians Will Team With Thor in Love and Thunder

While Chris Pratt played coy when asked about Thor and the Guardians teaming up again in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3., fellow Guardian and voice of Groot Vin Diesel spilled the beans about the “Asgardians of the Galaxy” and their next adventure. In an interview promoting his latest superhero movie, Bloodshot, Diesel revealed that Thor: Love and Thunder will “incorporate some of the Guardians of the Galaxy” in a “very interesting” way. Realizing he might have inadvertently leaked a spoiler, Diesel followed up with, “Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything.”

Director Taika Waititi‘s sequel to Thor: Ragnarok recently had its release date pushed back to February 18, 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 has yet to be put on Marvel’s schedule of movies because writer-director James Gunn has to finish his work on Suicide Squad for DC Entertainment before he returns to Marvel Studios.

Not content to spill just one spoiler, Diesel also revealed that Groot will have grown and evolved yet again by the time we see him in Guardians 3. Unwilling to elaborate further, Diesel said:

I only have two words about that character and it is ‘Alpha Groot.’

We have seen Groot, Baby Groot and Teenage Groot already, but so far no Alpha Groot, and there is no such version of the character in Marvel comics or related media. King Groot has appeared in both comic books and, more famously, in the wildly popular mobile video game Contest of Champions, but he is an unlikely archetype for Alpha Groot, considering he is a tyrant warlord from another dimension who experimented on humans.

We likely won’t know for months or even years just what an Alpha Groot is given Marvel’s lack of information about their future slate of movies, but, given time, Diesel is likely to spoil the details himself so we’ll watch for his next slip.
