Superhero Hooker Heading to the Big Screen in The Pro Adapation

Female superheroes are finally getting their due on the big screen, with Wonder Woman opening this summer, a Captain Marvel movie heading to theaters in 2019 and a Batgirl movie in the works by fan favorite Joss Whedon. While those popular characters are great examples of strong, independent, virtuous women who put their lives on the line to help others, Paramount Pictures is getting in on the superheroine movie action with a character that is far less well known, exceedingly more self-centered and infinitely less virtuous.

According to Deadline, the studio has picked up the rights to the controversial (and hilarious) Image Comics graphic novel The Pro by Garth Ennis, Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti, with the intention of turning it into a live-action movie. A parody of mainstream superhero comic books, The Pro features one of the most unlikely people to ever gain superpowers: a foul-mouthed prostitute and single mother who dons a costume to help the League of Honor save the world, but also uses her powers to help her get a lot more, ahem, jobs done than a normal woman could.

If done right, this could be an excellent deconstructionist superheroine movie along the lines of Kick-Ass. Done wrong, we could be looking at softcore cosplay porn or, worse yet, a mysoginistic farce.
