Sony Doubles Down With Silver Sable and Black Cat

Sony generated a lot of buzz with the casting of Tom Hardy in the title role in its Spider-Verse spin-off movie Venom, and now the studio is doubling down with another spin-off featuring two popular female characters from the Spider-Man comic books: Black Cat and Silver Sable. Silver Sable is a tough-as-nails mercenary who hunts down war criminals, while Black Cat (basically a Catwoman rip-off) is a cat burglar and one-time love interest of Spider-Man’s who straddles the line between hero and villain.

The first draft of the script, now titled Silver & Black, was written by Lisa Joy, co-creator of HBO’s Westworld, but Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) apparently wrote the most recent draft. Gina Prince-Bythewood (Beyond the Lights) will direct.

Though Spider-Man will not appear in the movie due to the deal Sony made with Marvel Studios, several other Spider-Man characters will be appearing in the movie if this snippet of a synopsis posted by Splash Report is legit:

Seven years after Mendel Stromm (a.k.a. Robot Master) and his two henchmen (The Scorpion and The Tarantula) killed her father, Silver Sable is hired by the government to find Felicia Hardy. The Black Cat, a master hacker and thief, has apparently stolen valuable secret information. She’s hiding in the lawless and dangerous triple frontier area between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.

The synopsis also mentions appearances by Spider-Man characters the Chameleon, Kraven the Hunter, Tombstone, Dominic Fortune, Spider-Woman and Norman Osborn.

Of course, this synopsis could be totally bunk, but if even a handful of these characters make an appearance, we could be looking at an Avengers-scale team-up movie featuring a cast filled with Spider-Man villains and that would be a great substitute for the Sinister Six movie that never came to be.
