While substitute director Ron Howard has been very generous to fans, using his Twitter feed to tease new additions to the cast, new locations in the Star Wars galaxy and even story details, Lucasfilm hasn’t been giving us much of anything to go on regarding Han Solo: A Star Wars Story. We haven’t seen a still from the movie, a poster or any footage, and we don’t know much of anything about any of the other characters in the movie, let alone the plot.
Thankfully, whether due to his brief amount of time on the set as a replacement for Michael K. Williams, or because he seems so chummy with Howard, Paul Bettany revealed an exciting detail about the type of movie we’re going to be getting in Han Solo’s (Alden Ehrenreich) solo adventure in an f-bomb laced interview with TotalFilm:
It’s Han Solo’s story, and of course his story would be a caper. On one level it’s a gangster movie. That’s really interesting, because it’s within the canon but really different. It’s f*cking Han Solo!
With Lucasfilm still pushing Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it’s likely that the studio will wait a while before it kicks into gear promoting Han Solo to avoid moviegoer confusion or dilution. With a May release, it’s likely we will see the first trailer in front of Black Panther in February.
Lawrence and Jon Kasdan wrote the script, which focuses on the formative years of the young smuggler and scoundrel (Alden Ehrenreich), his gambling buddy (Donald Glover) and a big walking carpet who owes him a life debt (Joona Suotamo). Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Emilia Clarke and Pheobe Waller-Bridge also star.
Han Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on May 25th.
