New Spoilerific Trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home Drops Bombs

Spoilers…

We’re all still cheering, grieving, speculating and debating the events in Avengers: Endgame, and along comes a new trailer for Spider-Man: Far from Home to give us even more confusing tidbits and one major plot point to ponder. Unlike the teaser trailers, which were all about Peter Parker (Tom Holland) putting down the suit and getting back to being a happy-go-lucky teenager excited to go on a field trip to Europe, the new trailer shows us a grieving Peter mourning the loss of his mentor and father figure Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) and ducking the calls of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).

This new trailer also reveals a MAJOR new development that will influence the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole: Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) use of the Infinity Gauntlet caused the creation of (or maybe just the discovery of) a multiverse of parallel worlds like we saw in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) is actually from one of those parallel worlds. This could be the way the X-Men, Fantastic Four and other former Fox-controlled Marvel properties will be folded into the MCU and opens the door for an alternate Tony Stark or still-young Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) to return.

And, as if Peter doesn’t already have enough going on with Fury darting his friends and conscripting him into battle, plus a new partner/mentor from another world, the trailer also seems to imply that MJ (Zendaya) knows Peter’s secret identify, which opens up a whole new can of worms for the Wall Crawler.

Far from Home was directed by Jon Watts, from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. It is the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming  Michael Keaton, Jon FavreauJacob Batalon,ZendayaMarisa Tomei, Cobie SmuldersAngourie Rice, Martin Starr, JB Smoove, and Samuel L. Jackson also star.

The movie opens in theaters on July 5th.
