James Cameron Congratulates Avengers: Endgame for Surpassing Avatar at Box Office
In the box office battle of Disney-acquired studio blockbuster film versus other Disney-acquired studio blockbuster film, the winner is, obviously, Disney. Hurray! Nevertheless, it is a monumental accomplishment that Marvel Entertainment, acquired by Disney in 2009, has only been developing and producing movies since 2007, yet its 23-film shared-universe franchise is the highest-grossing film franchise of all time and now also holds the record for highest-grossing movie worldwide as Avengers: Endgame surpassed Avatar this past weekend after the movie’s re-release last month.
Showing that he is a class act, director James Cameron, whose Avatar franchise now falls under Disney’s umbrella alongside the MCU following the House of Mouse’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, offered up congratulations to his sister studio with a piece of art showing Iron Man surrounded by Avatar woodsprites with the Na’vi saying “Oel ngati kameie,” or “I see you.”
