DC Movie Nooz: Flash Gets IT Director, Joker is Original and Storm Reid for Suicide Squad

The Flash

Another Justice Leaguer’s solo movie is finally moving forward after first being announced nearly five years ago. Ambitious plans were unveiled to adapt the classic “Flashpoint” comic book event into a movie starring Ezra Miller as “The Fastest Man Alive,” but everything slowed down considerably once Justice League proved to be both a critical and a financial disaster. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the writers of Spider-Man: Homecoming and directors of Game Night were hired to direct in January of last year, but now Variety has reported that It and It: Chapter 2 director Andy Muschietti is “in talks” to helm the movie, possibly from a script by Bumblebee and Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson.

Initially announced as a 2018 release, The Flash is now zooming towards a 2021 debut in theaters.

Joker

Co-writer (with Scott Silver) and director Todd Phillips made a preemptive strike against the uber-fans, trolls and haters who will likely take issue with his iteration of the Joker by revealing to Empire that the movie starring Joaquin Phoenix is a completely original story of the “Clown Prince of Crime” and not an adaptation.

We didn’t follow anything from the comic-books, which people are gonna be mad about. We just wrote our own version of where a guy like Joker might come from. That’s what was interesting to me. We’re not even doing Joker, but the story of becoming Joker. It’s about this man.

Joker opens in theaters on October 4th.

The Suicide Squad

It’s still unclear exactly which DC comic book character Idris Elba will be playing in James Gunn‘s relaunch, with rumors of him taking over Will Smith‘s role as Deadshot, or possibly bringing Bronze Tiger to life on the big screen for the first time, but whoever he is playing, we know one thing: he’s a father. According to The Wrap, Storm Reid, star of A Wrinkle in Time, is in consideration to join the cast as the daughter of Elba’s mysterious character.

The Suicide Squad is slated to be released in theaters on August 6, 2021.
