DC FanDome: The Long-Awaited Teaser for Black Adam Starring Dwayne Johnson
If there’s one actor in Hollywood with the ability to will their superhero movie into existence, it would be Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool. If there was another actor in Hollywood with a similar ability, it would be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Black Adam. Reynolds’ process took 16 years, but resulted in two HUGE live-action movies that changed the whole notion of what a mainstream superhero could be, do, and say, given its R-rating. Meanwhile, Johnson has been hyping Black Adam since 2014, but with little more than social media updates to show for his trouble. At least, until now.
During the recent DC FanDome online event, fans finally got a look at a Rock-narrated video concept art for the Jaume Collet-Serra-directed movie about a man with the ability to call down the thunder and lightning of SHAZAM centuries before Billy Batson (Asher Angel) uttered the wizard’s name. Unfortunately, there’s no live-action footage of Johnson in costume, but we do get to see quite a few shots of his SHAZAM-inspired black costume and the teaser implies that the plot may take place over 5,000 years, from Black Adam’s imprisonment in ancient (and fictional) Kahndaq to his release in present day.
Black Adam is tentatively slated to open December 22, 2021.
