Celebrity Stormtroopers and Benicio del Toro on His Mysterious Star Wars: The Last Jedi Character
One of the greatest cameos to come out of director J.J. Abrams‘ The Force Awakens was James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, as the stormtrooper who gets Jedi mind-tricked by Rey (Daisy Ridley) in the interrogation room. Not to be outdone, writer-director Rian Johnson has enlisted several more celebrities to play stormstroopers in The Last Jedi, including two actual princes. THR has revealed that singer Gary Barlow, actor Tom Hardy and British royals Prince William and Prince Harry will all appear in The Last Jedi as stormtroopers, and they will all appear in the same scene together.
We’ll likely have to keep our ears perked up to hear the voices of that famous quartet to find the scene they are in, but one person that we won’t have to look out for is Benicio del Toro‘s mysterious character DJ, a hacker that Finn (John Boyega) and Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) turn to for help on Canto Bight. Is he a good guy? A bad guy? A bounty hunter? We don’t know what his deal is, but according to del Toro, “that’s the idea.”
Maybe you could find [DJ] in a Bob Dylan song or a Tom Waits song. Or maybe in a Dostoyevsky novel. You’ll find DJ in one of those stories. You don’t know what he is. But that’s the idea… You don’t know if he’s good or bad.
The Last Jedi also stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Joonas Suotamo, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Billie Lourd, Gwendoline Christie and Laura Dern.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens December 15th.
