The official plot of the new Black Widow solo movie has yet to be revealed, but what we have been able to gather from the trailer, interviews and key frame art is that it takes place between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, when Natasha Romanoff, aka the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), has been forced into hiding along with the rest of the heroes who sided with Captain America (Chris Evans) against Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) and the government and involves the former Avenger reuniting with her former Soviet Russian “family” of assassins and super soldiers: “sister” Black Widow Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh); veteran Black Widow Melina (Rachel Weisz); and the Soviet Union’s answer to Captain America, Red Guardian (David Harbour). The deadly mercenary with “Photographic Reflexes” Taskmaster is at least one of the villains in the movie and his abilities and his classic comic book hood and shield are on display in the new “Special Look” trailer.

Marvel has also released a “Legacy” featurette about the character of Black Widow, who Johansson described as “multi-layered and motivated and determined,” a character with “an arc” and endless possibilities.
Black Widow was directed by Cate Shortland, from a script by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson. It is slated to open in theaters on May 1st.
