James Gunn’s Brightburn Trailer Puts a Dark Spin on a Classic Superhero Origin Story

Even though he was ousted from Marvel, James Gunn isn’t ready to leave superheroes behind just yet. The Guardians of the Galaxy writer-director has produced a new superhero movie titled Brightburn that gives us a much less hopeful and far more horrifying take on the “boy who fell to Earth” origin story that we all know so well.

Imagine what he could become.

Brightburn was directed by David Yarovesky, from a script by by Mark and Brian Gunn. Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Matt Jones, and Meredith Hagner star.

Brightburn is slated to open in theaters on Memorial Day 2019.
