Ever since it was announced that Marvel would be bringing the ancient team of superheroes known as the Eternals to the big screen, MCU fans were left scratching their heads. Where were the Eternals for the past several thousand years? How is it that S.H.I.E.L.D., H.Y.D.R.A., Wakanda and the Ancient One were unaware of their presence? And, why, oh, why, would they not intervene when Thanos gathered the Infinity Stones and snapped half of all life in the universe out of existence.
We don’t get the answer to all of those questions in the new trailer for Eternals, but we do learn why the Eternals were in hiding and why they failed to step up and confront the Mad Titan. Of course, we’re also left with all sorts of new questions, which makes waiting for the movie to debut on November 5th a big agonizing for us die-hard fans.
After the return of half the population in Avengers: Endgame ignites “the emergence,” the Eternals—an immortal alien race created by the Celestials who have secretly lived on Earth for over 7,000 years—reunite to protect humanity from their evil counterparts, the Deviants.
The movie is the first major studio film for Independent Spirit Award-winning director Chloé Zhao (The Rider). The script was written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. The super ensemble cast includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh and Angelina Jolie as Thena, with Kit Harrington as the human hero the Black Knight.
The Eternals opens in theaters on November 5th.
