David Harbour Talks Hellboy, Gets His ‘Right Hand of Doom’

Things are moving right along on Neil Marshall’s (Westworld TV series) Hellboy franchise relaunch, titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, with principal photography expected to begin in September, just four months after the casting of David Harbour (Stranger Things) in the title role. That seems like an accelerated pace for a big-budget, effects-intensive movie, but pre-production is already underway, as evidenced by this awesome shot of Harbour being fitted for the “Right Hand of Doom,” the stone hand gifted to Hellboy by his demon father Azzael after he was born.

Harbour admitted to being a fan of Hellboy and said that the time is right for a darker take on the character, which is truer to Mike Mignola‘s vision than Guillermo del Toro‘s movies.

I’d always been a fan of the comics and there’s a darker tone to it and I think in the climate we have now there’s kind of a darker… a desire for more of that… the script is good and this guy Neil Marshall is directing who’s really good and the aesthetic is great.

Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen was written by Andrew Cosby (Eureka TV series), Christopher Golden (Ghosts of Albion) and Mignola.
