Avengers 4 Reshoots Clues: Jeremy Renner and Hawkeye

Jeremy Renner – Hawkeye

Though he hung up his bow to be with his family following Avengers: Age of Ultron, Hawkeye was forced out of retirement by the Sokovia Accords and wound up under lock and key on The Raft at the end of Captain America: Civil War.

We never found out if Thanos’ apocalyptic *snap* at the end of Avengers: Infinity War turned the archer to dust or if he survived to fight another day. However, early set photos showed him wearing the shinguards of Ronin, a character from the comic books that has served as the secret identity of several heroes, including Clint Barton.

A new photo posted by Renner, and presumably taken during the recent reshoots, shows Barton looking lean and mean, with the same severe haircut he was sporting during filming last year. Of course, that only tells us that a Clint Barton he is alive in Avengers 4 and fighting crime as Ronin, but not whether he is the same Clint Barton we know, who has adopted a new persona to hide his outlaw identify, or another dimension’s version of Barton, as some have theorized.

Renner’s “#purplebadguy” and middle finger text are easy to interpret, but his other messages referencing Black Widow and Hawkeye are confusing, as is “#cawcawmfs” and “#isanyonegonnashowup.”

Avengers 4 is slated for a May 3, 2019 release.

You know it’s Ronin! Gotta have that cool mask though.
