Super Casting: Three Actors Defying ‘Death’ to Return in Avengers 4 and Wonder Woman

Avengers 4

Proving he really is a “tough guy” actor, Frank Grillo defied the Marvel moviemaking monolith to spoil the news on the UFC Unfiltered podcast that his villainous character from Captain America: Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War will return from the grave in directors Anthony and Joe Russo‘s as-yet-untitled sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, if only in flashback.

[Crossbones] makes an appearance in the next ‘Avengers’ movie, but it’s a flashback. And I’m allowed to say whatever I want because I’m never doing another Marvel movie…because I’m 117 years old.

Another character back from the dead for Avengers 4 is The Ancient One, Dr. Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) instructor in the Mystic Arts, once again played by Tilda Swinton. This time, the one leaking the news is executive producer Michael Grillo, so it’s unlikely the reveal will make too many waves.

When we got Tilda Swinton, she was just a one-day availability…

Avengers 4 is slated for a May 3, 2019 release.

Wonder Woman 1984

The early September rumor about General Antiope returning in flashback in Patty Jenkins‘ sequel to Wonder Woman appears to have been true. In a recent interview with Variety, Robin Wright confirmed her involvement in Wonder Woman 1984 – which flash-forwards from the World War I setting of the first movie to the ’80s – and spoke of the importance of the character played by Gal Gadot  in our current social and political climate.

It’s going to be an iconic time: a little ‘Wonder Woman’ in the vortex of this movement. And what Wonder Woman, who was created in the ‘40s, what does she symbolize? Justice and equality and speaking the truth. So to be a part of that enhancement, as Wonder Woman’s general, it’s so great.

Wonder Woman 1984 opens in theaters on June 5, 2020.
