First Frenetic Teaser Trailer for Venom Starring Tom Hardy

Oh, man, what a week for comic book movie fans! Not only are we just a little over a week away from the release of Black Panther, but we just got our first look at Josh Brolin as Cable in Deadpool 2 and now Sony has released the first teaser poster and trailer for director Ruben Fleischer‘s Venom starring Tom Hardy as the alien symbiote’s host, Eddie Brock.

After a few seconds of frenetic action, the teaser zeroes in on Brock, the man, before showing us what appears to be the origin of the symbiote – a crashed spaceship – which seems to indicate that the rumors that this movie will be untethered from the Spider-Man mythos, and the Spider-Man: Homecoming “universe,” is true. We don’t get to see Venom, per se, only the symbiote, but if you look closely you will see that there are two symbiote containers and one of them is empty. Carnage, anyone?

Sony also released a teaser poster that pays tribute to the comic book vision of the character.

Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner wrote the first draft of the script, with later versions by Kelly Marcel and Will Beall. The cast includes Riz AhmedMichelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, and Scott Haze in as-yet-unrevealed roles.

Venom opens in theaters on October 5th.

A little burned about the lack of Venom actually being in the movie, but I like what I see!
