Captain America 4 Starring Anthony Mackie in the Works at Marvel

Spoilers…

Hot on the heels of the release of the final episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (FWS) on Disney+, THR reports that Marvel is readying plans to have Anthony Mackie headline the fourth installment in the Captain America movie franchise. Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson, who fought alongside the Avengers as the Falcon since 2014’s Captain America: Winter Soldier finally took up the shield and mantle of Captain America in the final episode of the series. While the finale episode was not one of the best in the series, with many missed opportunities, it was a huge payoff Marvel fans when Falc–, er, Captain America flew into frame sporting a brand-new costume (presumably) designed by Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and created in Wakanda.

Captain America 4 (working title) will be written by Malcolm Spellman, the head writer and creator of FWS, along with FWS staff writer Dalan Musson. Considering how many dangling plot threads were left at the end of the series — Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontaine’s (Julia Louise-Dreyfus) mysterious agenda for John Walker, aka US Agent (Wyatt Russell); Bucky’s (Stan) role now that Sam (Mackie) is Captain America; Zemo’s (Daniel Brühl) plans for Walker and other powered beings; Sharon Carter’s (Emily VanCamp) double life as the Power Broker and her mysterious clients — there is fertile ground for a big screen sequel to the series. No director is attached, as of yet.

All six episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are currently streaming on Disney+.
