Marvel Movie Bites: Jude Law Evasive About Captain Marvel, Dave Bautista Still Digs Drax

Captain Marvel

After scores of out-of-context set images, we finally got our first good looks at Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, as well as Jude Law in costume as her Kree mentor and, presumably, the original Captain Marvel from the comic books, Mar-Vell. The EW article doesn’t come right out and state that Law is playing that storied character from Marvel lore, but Law’s own description describes Mar-Vell to a T:

[My character] is driven by a belief in the divine leadership of the Kree people. So he’s almost a devout warrior — unquestioning, conservative, but inspirational.

Captain Marvel was directed by the team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississipi Grind). It opens in theaters on March 8, 2019.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3.

With the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise “on hold indefinitely” following the firing of James Gunn for “offensive attitudes and statements,” it’s unclear whether we will ever see our favorite space pirates again after Avengers 4Dave Bautista has said that he may never play Drax again because of the “bitter” situation, but he would still love to see Drax’s “beautiful story” on the big screen, even if another actor played the part:

It’s a beautiful and heartbreaking emotional thing to know where that love for his family and that heartbreak over his family being lost and murdered, where it comes from, I think. … I really pushed and fought for a Drax standalone film but I don’t think it’s ever going to happen. But, I really wish they would because I think there’s a story to be told there and I think the fans would really love to see that story, even if it’s not me portraying Drax, I just still think it is an interesting story to tell.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 was initially slated for a 2020 release date. Its current status is unknown.
