Jared Leto Will Bring Morbius the Living Vampire to Life on the Big Screen

With an appearance as the Joker in Suicide Squad and a planned spin-off Joker movie in the works, Jared Leto has already cornered the supervillain market over at DC and he will soon be crossing over into the Marvel Universe, as well, albeit through the Marvel characters controlled by Sony that are not being shared with Marvel Studios. According to Variety, Leto has been offered the title role in Morbius the Living Vampire as Dr. Michael Morbius , a biochemist who develops vampire-like features and abilities after experimenting on himself to cure his rare blood disorder.

Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) will direct the movie, which may or may not be connected to Ruben Fleischer‘s upcoming Venom movie starring Tom Hardy and Gina Prince-Bythewood‘s Silver Sable and Black Cat movie Silver and Black, but will definitely not be directly related to the Spider-Man: Homecoming franchise starring Tom Holland despite Morbius being a Spider-Man villain and erstwhile ally in the comic books. We can chalk that contorted continuity up to the complicated deal that Sony made with Marvel Studios for control of Spider-Man and his inclusion in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity WarBurk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Netflix’s Lost in Space) wrote the script.

Morbius the Living Vampire does not yet have a release date.

  • He is a really interesting person who seems to lose himself in his roles. I wasn’t into his Joker, but a lot of people loved it, which is why he has two more Joker movies on the way. But ‘Morbius,’ this could be the perfect role for him, an updated Lestat in spandex!
