Hellboy Filming Causes Uproar in England

Filming has only been underway for a few weeks on Neil Marshall’s Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, but the production has already been met with some controversy. Local residents of Wells, Somerset, are outraged that the Lionsgate production was allowed to film inside the 900-year-old Wells Cathedral considering the protagonist of the movie is a demon conjured by Nazis. One resident wrote that the production “defiled” the building, while another said she was “surprised and shocked” by the news: “For heavens’s sake. Are we losing sight of what this was built for?”

Cathedral officials defended allowing the production to film there, telling the BBC they had investigated the story of Mike Mignola‘s creation and found that Hellboy’s “true nature was that of a defender against the forces of darkness, in an eternal battle of good against evil.”

Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen was written by Andrew Cosby (Eureka TV series), Christopher Golden (Ghosts of Albion) and Mignola. David Harbour stars in the title role, with Milla JovovichDaniel Dae Kim, Sasha Lane, Penelope Mitchell and Ian McShane also staring.

The movie does not have a release date as of yet.
