Concept Art of Brie Larson in Costume as Captain Marvel

Attendees of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con who were lucky enough to be in Hall H during the massive Marvel presentation already got a first look at concept art of Brie Larson as Marvel’s answer to Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, but now Andy Park, Marvel Studios Visual Development Supervisor & Concept Artist for Thor: Ragnarok, Ant-Man & the Wasp and Captain Marvel has graced the rest of us with a look at the comic-faithful costume Larson will be wearing in the big-screen adaptation and it is wonderful, er, marvelous!

The script for Captain Marvel was written by Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve and will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind). The plot supposedly revolves around an invasion by the shapeshifting alien Skrulls and will take place in the 1990s, making Carol Danvers (Larson) one of Marvel’s earliest costumed superheroes in the MCU mythology. Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury, apparently pre-eye patch.

Filming is expected to commence in January 2018. The movie is currently slated to open March 8, 2019.

Epic!! Ever since the talk of the first Avengers film, my #1 story I wanted them to adapt was the secret invasion. So I’m SUUUUUPER pumped about this. Hope we find out that the Skrulls have been among us since the 90’s. and I hope Avengers 4 ties into Secret Invasion. Fingers crossssed!!!

  • Super surprised they are using Skrulls because the Chitauri were basically the Ultimate version of them. Love it, though! Having it take place in the past is an interesting twist.
