Awesome New Poster for Ruben Fleischer’s Venom Defies Sony’s PG-13 Rating

The fan community had a pretty negative reaction to the announcement that Sony’s Venom  would not be an ultra-violent R-rated adaptation akin to Logan or Deadpool, but have a Marvel-friendly PG-13 rating to keep alive the possibility of the character crossing over with Spider-Man, who is currently on loan to Marvel. In an effort to temper fan frustraion, director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) told Fandango that he “wouldn’t rule anything out” when it came to a potential R-rated home video cut of the movie.

To remind everyone that Venom is cool and mean and nasty even at PG-13, a new IMAX poster has been released that focuses on what Fleischer calls Venom’s “most distinguishing traits,” his eyes, mouth and prehensile tongue.

Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner wrote the first draft of the script for Venom, with later versions by Kelly Marcel and Will Beall. The cast includes Tom HardyRiz AhmedMichelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, and Scott Haze in as-yet-unrevealed roles. Woody Harrelson is also rumored to have a major role in the movie as the homicidal symbiote Carnage.

Venom opens in theaters on October 5th.
