Blade Runner 2049: New Animated Prequel Short by Cowboy Bebop’s Shinichiro Watanabe

The third and final short bridging the gap between Ridley Scott‘s original Blade Runner, set in 2019, and the upcoming sequel, Denis Villeneuve‘s Blade Runner 2049, takes place in 2022 and features animation by legendary Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo director Shinichiro Watanabe. See you, Space Cowboy!

Blade Runner 2049 was written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, from a story by Fancher that is based on the world envisioned by the late Philip K. Dick. Harrison Ford, Ryan GoslingJared Leto, Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, and Edward James Olmos also star.

Blade Runner 2049 opens on October 6th.

    The eye patch at the end was pretty brilliant. Wow I’m practically on the edge of my seat waiting for Bladerunner 2049.

  • It was excellent, visually, but also explained a ton about what led to the Replicants being banned. Can’t wait for the movie!
