Natalie Portman Braves Mutant Predators for Love in Suspenseful Trailer for Annihilation

Ex-military biologist (Natalie Portman) ventures through an environmental disaster zone called “The Shimmer” to discover the cause of her husband’s (Oscar Isaac) seemingly incurable illness.  The trailer gives us tantalizing glimpses of giant crocs with shark teeth and a bear with no skin on its face due to uncontrolled mutations.  We are led to believe this ungodly area is spreading like a pox, and humanity’s hero is gonna take it on with passion, full-throated screams, and an AR-15.

Annihilation is based on a highly-acclaimed novel by Jeff VanderMeer. More importantly, in terms of cinema, is who adapted the novel for screen and directs this suddenly spiking-in-popularity sci-fi thriller: Alex Garland.  He sprinkled his magic fairy dust all over 28 Days Later, which, in many regards, is the single best zombie movie ever made.  Garland was nominated for an Oscar in 2016 for Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Ex-Machina.  Garland’s already fabulous career is about to take off in full, and Annihilation looks to have the motor to get him to the mountaintop.
