Woody Harrelson Might Play Carnage Opposite Tom Hardy in Venom Movie

Many fans were upset that the long-awaited Venom trailer did not show the star of the movie. Sure, we got a little bit of Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) screaming and a smidge of symbiote ickyness, but not a single frame of the terrifying anti-hero himself, not even a hint at what the movie version will look like or who or what the villain or villains will be.

The presence of a second symbiote container is evidence that Venom’s (Hardy) main enemy will likely be the red-and-black symbiote-powered mass murderer Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage, but Sony has yet to confirm the character is even in the movie, let alone provide any casting information. However, BleedingCool has been told in a “very confirm-y way” that Carnage will be in the movie and that Sony might have already cast Woody Harrelson in the role. Given his age, it’s unlikely Harrelson will lend much of his own physicality to the portrayal of Carnage, but if he can dredge up some of that Mickey Knox, he could be an inspired choice to play Cletus Kasady.

Venom was directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland). Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner wrote the first draft of the script, with later versions by Kelly Marcel and Will Beall. The cast includes Riz AhmedMichelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, and Scott Haze in as-yet-unrevealed roles.

Venom opens in theaters on October 5th.
