Why Lady Sif is Not in Thor: Ragnarok

If you watch Thor: Ragnarok this weekend, you might notice — minor spoiler coming up — that both of Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) paramours are absent from the movie. We knew for a long time that Natalie Portman would not be returning as Thor’s human love interest Jane Foster, but Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) is also missing from the action.

Don’t worry, there hasn’t been a falling out between Thor and Sif or Marvel and Alexander, for that matter. In a recent interview with Yahoo!, Alexander revealed that she was asked to reprise the role of Lady Sif in Ragnarok, but the timing was bad.

I was asked, but the timing of when they were going to shoot and when ‘Blindspot’ was going to shoot—it was pretty much the same time. So there was a conflict there. … I was hoping for more of a notice [from Marvel] so I could make it work, but it was a short notice thing. They called and said, ‘Hey, by the way, would you come do this?’ I said there is no way I can make that work that fast.

Thor: Ragnarok opens Friday.

Well, at least we didn’t have to watch her getting gutted after a whole 2 seconds of screen time. RIP Volstag…
