Patty Jenkins Wants to Bring Wonder Woman to America in the Sequel

For her first-ever big screen solo outing, DC Entertainment & Warner Bros. decided to borrow a page out of the Captain America movie franchise and have Princess Diana’s (Gal Gadot) story begin in Europe, in the past, during war time. Assuming Wonder Woman is a smash hit when it debuts next month, director Patty Jenkins (Monster) said that she would like to bring Diana back home to the United States in a more contemporary sequel.

I’m excited for her to come to America and become the Wonder Woman we are all familiar with from having grown up around her as an American superhero. I’d like to bring her a little farther along into the future and have a fun, exciting storyline that is its own thing. ‘Wonder Woman One’ is so much about her becoming the person she is. I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film.

Of course, not only would the first Wonder Woman have to do well, but the rest of the DC Expanded Cinematic Universe (DCECU) slate that’s already scheduled through 2020 — Justice League, Aquaman, The Flash, The Batman — would have to succeed, as well, for Warner Bros. to continue its shared movieverse and it’s experienced one setback after another. Here’s hoping Zack Snyder, Geoff Johns and the rest of the DCECU brain-trust get their acts together pretty soon.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana (Gal Gadot), princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Patty Jenkins directed the movie from a script by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns. Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Connie NielsenDanny Huston, David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner and Lucy Davis.

Wonder Woman opens on June 2, 2017.
