Marvel’s Black Panther Movie Begins Filming

Marvel Studios has announced the start of principal photography on Black Panther, the first live-action movie to star the iconic character created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby that first appeared in “Fantastic Four” #52 (1966) and the first to feature an African-American headliner and a predominantly African-American cast.

Directed by Ryan Coogler (Creed) from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole (The People v. O.J. Simpson:  American Crime Story), Black Panther is filming in Atlanta and South Korea. Chadwick Boseman reprises the role he originated in Captain America: Civil War, joined by Michael B. Jordan (Creed), Academy Award-winner Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead), Martin Freeman (Hobbit trilogy), Daniel Kaluuya (Sicario), Academy Award-nominee Angela Bassett (London Has Fallen), Academy Award-winner Forest Whitaker (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and Andy Serkis (Avengers: Age of Ultron).

Here’s the official synopsis:

Black Panther follows T’Challa (Boseman) who, after the events of ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.

Black Panther is slated to open on February 16, 2018.
