Drew Goddard to Write and Direct Deadpool Spinoff X-Force

The phenomenal success of Deadpool continues to affect Fox’s slate of superhero movies, first prompting the studio to pull the trigger on the R-rated Wolverine movie Logan and now by shifting the focus of the slate away from the convoluted (and aging, even after the reboot-not-reboot First ClassX-Men movies to a new team of “Black Ops” mutant anti-heroes led by the ‘Merc’ with a Mouth’ himself in X-Force.

Drew Goddard, who created and directed the Netflix series Daredevil and will next direct Chris Hemsworth and Jeff Bridges in Bad Times at the El Royale for Fox, will write and direct X-Force. According to DeadlineRyan Reynolds will be involved, not just as the star of the movie, but also as a producer, alongside Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner.

Plot details and characters are sketchy, but Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld assured fans that at least Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz) will reprise their Deadpool 2 roles for the spinoff.

Deadpool 2 recently wrapped filming under the direction of David Leitch (John Wick) from a script by Deadpool writers Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and Reynolds and Drew Goddard. The cast includes Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Stefan Kapacic as Colossus, with Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Leslie UggamsShioli KutsunaKaran Soni and Jack Kesy in supporting roles.

Deadpool 2 is slated for release on June 1, 2018
